Robbie Neilson’s side are expected at Prestonfield on an unconfirmed date in June, the first of Rose’s provisional pre-season programme of matches which is also expected to include home games against Bonnyrigg Rose and Bo’ness United and a trip to Armadale Thistle. The club are trying to arrange two other friendlies.

"Hearts (who on March 23 suffered a shock 2-1 Scottish Cup defeat at Highland League champions Brora Rangers) is obviously a very good tie for us,” Rose manager Brown Ferguson told the Journal and Gazette.

"Just to give the players a real chance to go and play against some real quality opposition.

"I know Robbie (Neilson), I did some coaching badges with him. I keep in touch fairly regularly and he’s always been helpful with certain things.

"I’m very grateful to him for offering the game.

"I think the clubs in the past have had good relations as well so hopefully we can put on a good game.

"We hope we can get the squad of player we need up until then and we can start to prepare properly for the season.

"Of course I was stunned when Hearts lost to Brora, it was a big shock for obvious reasons but that’s the nature of the cup, it happens.

"Obviously Hearts have kicked on very well from that and comfortably wrapped up the Championship and got back into the Premier League.

"So it wasn’t a great result but at the same time they’ve gone on and done what they needed to do this season.”

Ferguson also revealed that he has signed striker/winger Mark Stowe on a pre-contract deal from Camelon. The player was Camelon's leading scorer in the truncated 20/21 season.
