Rose supporters turned out last Sunday to watch a Linlithgow Rose Select take on a Hearts Select in Gordon Herd’s testimonial match to mark his 10 years service to the club.
The Rose Select featured a number of familiar faces, who all wore strips with the number 9 on the back, and Jim Sinnet returned as manager.
Scott Severin, Alan Lawrence and Jose Quitongo lined up in the Hearts team, as well as former Rose players Mark Bradley and Derek Fleming.
An emotional Gordon Herd extended his thanks to all his friends, family, ex-team mates and the Linlithgow support who ‘made it such a special day’. He added: “This day will live with me forever. The whole day was memorable, from having the likes of Whytey, Carrots and Tank in the same dressing room to Jim Sinnet’s old team talks.
“There was also a surprise visit from my cousin Alan, who came all the way from Dubai.”
Gordon managed to fit in a little dig at his long-time friend, current Rose manager, Danny Smith by saying that he did “his usual getting injured” when he had to be replaced after 25 minutes!
The game saw Hearts take a 2-1 lead at half time with goals from Ferguson and Crabbe in reply to the Rose’s Andy Dick.
Second half goals from Donnelly, Herd, Dick (2) and Flannery put the game to bed but Scott Crabbe did reply to make the final score 6-3 to the Rose. A fantastic day was had by all who attended.
