local tennis hero Colin Fleming has made his mark on the clay by making it into the second round of the French Open this week.
Colin, teamed with Germany’s Philipp Marx, overcame former partner Ken Skupski and Slovak Igor Zelenay, beating them 6-4 6-4 in the doubles.
This is the first time that Colin, no.65 in the doubles rankings, has played with Marx. Partnered with Skupski, the Linlithgow lad beat world number ones Bob and Mike Bryan at Queens in 2009, but they ended their two-year partnership in October.
Fleming said: “Ken and I know each other’s games inside out so we both had that going for us. Our partners know each other inside out too. I suppose it was quite a level playing field from that perspective but it was a decent level of match and I’m just pleased to have come through it.”
