TOMORROW afternoon’s George Simpson Memorial Cup match (Saturday) between Bo’ness United and Linlithgow Rose at Newtown Park has been postponed.

The BU committee was left with no option, after prolonged, heavy rainfall in recent weeks caused internal damage to the stand building which had been undergoing construction work.

It also left the pitch sodden, delaying its cutting until Monday.

A new roof is now in place on the stand and work is nearing completion, but earlier during the building period, the unseasonal weather caused water to seep into facilities underneath.

Ceilings collapsed in the physio and manager’s rooms and toilets, the dressing rooms were under six inches of water, and electrics, paintwork and carpets were damaged.

Extra dehumidifiers have been hired and the committee has been working flat out nightly to repair the damage, which has cost at least £1000.

United assistant secretary Douglas Argent said the game would be rearranged for a later date.

The match could not be switched to Prestonfield as its pitch is also not playable at this moment in time.
