Up to 100 sailors will descend on Port Edgar Marina this weekend for a dinghy training and regatta weekend.
The event is being sponsored and supported by the Bosun’s Locker, Port Edgar Watersports and RYA Scotland with organisation provided by Port Edgar Yacht Club.
Port Edgar Watersports will provide instructors, dinghies and RIBs while RYA Scotland will provide RIBs and instructors and Port Edgar Yacht Club offering race management, committee boats, RIB drivers and crew.
There will be various categories of dinghies involved including RS Fevas, RS 200, RS 400, 2000s and even some open handicap dinghies racing.
With the marina and watersports centre under new management, Port Edgar Yacht club see this as a great opportunity to boost the profile of the marina.
Dinghy sailing and racing at Port Edgar is growing and the yacht club aims to encourage the growth of dinghy sailing back to the dizzy heights of a decade ago when up to 100 sailors regularly sailed their own dinghies from the marina.
There are opportunities to hire dinghies, take courses and, even, join the yacht club. Like many sports, the younger the better but this is a sport which does not require physical prowess and is truly for all ages.
