Football may be the most popular sport amongst youngsters in the Journal and Gazette area but its American namesake is making an impact in Queensferry.
The Edinburgh Wolves Junior American Football team sprang into life in November 2013 and next month they we will compete in their first ever BAFA UK National League games against Alloa, Renfrew and Inverness. The Wolves Juniors are part of the overall Edinburgh Wolves family which has youth (14-17), junior (16-19) and senior (20+) clubs.
Head coach Andrew Bourke: “Since we started in November, we’ve seen over 45 kids during the winter period try football, and we’re heading into our season with a solid squad of 25.
‘‘The Edinburgh Wolves are providing all kit for the young players looking to try the sport, and are always keen for new players to give it a go.”
He added: “All the kids need to bring is a pair of boots, and a gumshield. We have seven fully-insured and qualified coaches just for the Junior team, and there’s nowhere else in Scotland that kids can get such a good introduction. We would welcome anyone to come down and give it a try.”
They Edinburgh Wolves Junior and youth teams train at Queensferry Rugby Club on Sundays from 10.30am to 1pm and every second Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
