Linlithgow Tennis Club welcomed 77 young tennis players and their families to the club last weekend for the annual Junior Open tournament.
Players aged 10 to 18 years came from as far afield as Prestwick and Strathpeffer while LTA referee Andree Hawke refereed the event.
The club was delighted to see two of their own members lifting trophies as Sammy Ralston and Jasmin Smith won the under 12
boys’ and girls’ events. Sammy and Jasmin are two of the club’s most promising juniors.
Sammy was named top seed in the boys’ 12U draw after the no 1 seed pulled out at the last minute.
Sammy’s victory never looked in doubt. With a bye in the first round, he beat opponents in three further rounds to win the title. His final score against Fraser Craig, Scotland West, was 6-2, 6-0. Sammy has also won an impressive number of other singles and doubles titles this season, including Central Scotland 12U and 14U singles titles at Bridge of Allan, the 12U singles at the Tayside Open in St Andrews, and doubles titles at the Central Easter Open, Central Scotland.
Jasmin gave a strong performance in the girls’ 12U final to defeat Maisie Wood of Scotland East, 6-1, 6-1. Jasmin recently became the club’s
under 10 champion and also won the Linlithgow Mini Open in June. She has also had a very successful season, reaching the finals of four other
open championships at the East of Scotland, West of Scotland, Tayside Open and Newlands Open.
Also from the club, Caitlin Owens was runner-up in the 16U girls, and semi-finalists were Alexander Ralston (14U boys), Rachel Scott (16U
girl), and Ruaridh Owens (18U boys). The tennis committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make the event a success, and Life
Fit Physiotherapy and West Lothian Council for sponsoring the event.
