Kirkliston’s Neil Speirs is bidding to capture the national indoor headlines this weekend.
He lines up in the final stages of the singles in the finals of the Scottish Championships being held at West of Scotland IBC.
Speirs – a member of the Commonwealth Games elite squad on the outdoor scene – is also a potent force in indoor events and on his day can live with the best but it will take one of his supreme efforts to land the ‘‘blue riband’’ title of the nationals.
The WLIBC star opens against relative dark horse Jason Banks of Garioch in their semi-final clash at 12.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) and, if successful, will face one of his hot shot international colleagues in the shape of Ronnie Duncan of Midlothian and Iain McLean of Blantyre.
The Lothian area is also represented by Midlothian in the ladies junior singles and two-bowl pairs, Bainfield in the gents’ two-bowl pairs and East Lothian in the under 18 singles. The finals follow on Sunday.
