The family of 24-year old Rory, who played rugby for Falkirk RFC as well as Basketball with Falkirk Fury, have been raining funds to support him during this difficult time and members of the rugby and wider communities were keen to help however they could.

Club members and officials organised a sponsored walk from their Sunnyisde clubhouse to The Kelpies and back last Saturday and the event was hailed as a resounding success by Director of Rugby Kenny Grieve.

He said: “It was a fantastic day despite the weather.

"We had about 80 or so people and have so far managed to raise £2650 and still have donations coming in so it’s a brilliant amount we’ve managed to raise.

“It was great having people coming together for this cause and everyone was in good spirits and happy doing the walk.

"We had Rory's mum and other relatives walking with us and we had a good turnout from all members of the club from seniors down to the minis.

"It was fantastic seeing not just the local rugby community but other people not part of the club come along, it was a great coming together for us to do and really showed the community spirit.

"Rory messaged the players page which we use for organising training and stuff to say thank you and it as great seeing so many of the boys messaging him to say that even though he hasn't played in about three and a half years he's still very much part of the Falkrik Rugby Club family and always will be.

"My thanks to Dale Ashworth and Sharron Taylor, from the muscle injury clinic who worked with Rory, who along with myself were behind the organising of the event.

“Also to the staff at the snack van at the Kelpies who were giving out juices to the kids for free which was greatly appreciated.”

Donations are still being accepted to support Rory and can be made by visiting www.justgiving.com and search for Rebecca MacAdam’s Rory Wilson page to donate to the cause.
