A TENNIS tournament run for primary four pupils went off with a swing.

The competition was organised by Linlithgow Tennis Club, with PE coordinators Lesley Malone and Lauren McLean, in the playground at Linlithgow Primary. Seven courts were in action and 53 pupils took part.

Michael Fleming, Linlithgow Tennis Club head coach, said: “It was a fantastic day.

‘‘The rain poured down as the kids arrived but then we got an hour and a half of sunshine so we were ok!

‘‘We have run a couple of these before but learning from experience this time we nailed it and the format and the day ran perfectly.”

The annual event is designed to get more kids interested in tennis and also provides an opportunity for Michael to spot new talent that can be trained by the local club.

He added: “The great news is that out of the seven winners I have only seen Logan - who is one of our best at the club for P4s - and Megan before.

‘‘The rest of the winners are new to me and, out of the seven runners up, I have only seen two of them before, so right away I have 10 new talented kids if they want to get involved.”

The champions were: Logan Ireland - Torphichen Primary; Robbie Hamilton - Linlithgow Primary; Megan Chalmers - St Joseph’s Primary; Millie Snedden - Linlithgow Primary; Andrew McGill - St Joseph’s Primary; Gregor Cochrane - Low Port Primary; Luke Callaghan - Linlithgow Primary.
