TENNIS talent James Ritchie from Linlithgow proved he had what it takes when he smashed his way through to win an under 14 contest in Bridge of Allan.
The junior player at Linlithgow Tennis Club won the boy’s event at the open tournament where 32 played, the largest entry of the contest.
In his first match James (13) beat Matthew Grieve (East) 6-1, 6-1. He then faced the number three seed, Ewan Lumsden (West), which was a close match decided by a tie-break. James won 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 for a place in the semi-finals.
There he beat the second seed, Michael Welsh (Central), 6-3, 6-0. With the number one seed out of the competition, James took early control of the final, and defeated Ruaridh Owens (Central), who is also a member of Linlithgow Tennis Club, 6-3, 6-1.
James received his trophy from Kenny Wood, former district coach and vice-president of Bridge of Allan Sports Club. The tournament was sponsored by Graham’s Dairies.
