The Journal and Gazette area has a new Scottish champion in Helen Wilson.
Helen, a mother of two, from Linlithgow, won the Scottish Muay Thai women’s title (under 61Kg) at Grangemouth on Friday.
A fitness instructor at Linlithgow Leisure Centre, Helen took up the sport three years ago, training at the Carange Muay Thai gym in Grangemouth where she also takes a women only Muay Thai fitness club.
She said after her win over Natasha Mann, of the Bad Boys Club in Glasgow: “I am completely over the moon with winning this title. It’s a fantasic achievement for me! I have been training incredibly hard for this!”
The fight, which lasted five, 90 second rounds was an amateur fight with full Thai boxing rules which means elbows to the head and knees to the face were allowed, but the contestants wear full headgear, body guards and elbow protection.
Last week’s fight was Helen’s fourth having suffered only one loss.
She is now set to travel down to Leeds next weekend to compete against Leeds fighter Amanda Ward.
