Former Hibs and Hearts footballer Michael Stewart visited Linlithgow Academy earlier this week to help launch the TSB Football Travel Fund.
The fund will cater for secondary and primary school teams, as well as Scottish Schools’ FA (SSFA) Regional Associations, competing in TSB supported competitions during the 2013/14 season that face exceptional travel costs to fulfil fixtures.
Linlithgow Academy are among the first schools set to benefit after their U15 Girls team made trips to Stornoway and Forfar in reaching the semi-finals of their age-group Shield competition.
TSB, a partner of the SSFA, has committed to pay a percentage of each valid funding application received, with each school entitled to make two claims.
David MacKenzie, headteacher at Linlithgow Academy, said: “It’s fantastic to see TSB support school football teams in this way.
“Our U15 Girls squad have faced two very long trips in competing in this year’s TSB Shield competition, something that requires a great deal of financial support from the school.
“For TSB to assist with this financial outlay is great news for the school and I’m sure the Travel Fund will be of benefit to many schools facing exceptional travel across the country.”
TSB Travel Fund applications can only be made via www.abouttsb.co.uk/travelfund.
