Camelon Winter Festival set to light up village

Families can look forward to many magical moments this Saturday and Sunday as Camelon Winter Festival kicks into action.

Thorough planning and a £9950 award from the National Lottery Community Fund ensured the event was given the go-ahead last month amid the nationwide tightening of Covid-19 restrictions.

Organisers are determined not to let the pandemic take the shine off proceedings and make this Christmas one to remember for all of the right reasons.

Santa and his elves are planning to stop by Camelon in a horse-drawn carriage to hand out gifts to children in a safe manner, with social distancing measures in place from 2pm until 6pm each day.

A large van-mounted LED screen displaying inspiring videos of local artists and performers will then make its way through the streets to key locations across Camelon from noon until 7pm on both days.

Camelon’s own singer-songwriter, Dionne Hickey, will make a guest appearance to share messages of festive joy and provide some entertainment.

Ann Henderson, Camelon Winter Festival chairwoman, is looking forward to bringing joy to the community.

She said: “This year, of all years, we’re determined to keep the Christmas spirit alive and kicking in Camelon.

“With our community centre shut, we’ll be weaving through the streets with a cinema-type screen showcasing inspiring local talent and our Santa will shower joy and goodwill from his carriage. It will be absolutely brilliant, I promise!”
